Flame retardancy can be tested with several standards, the most common standards are the UL 94 standard which is widely used for e.g. electrical components and the FAR norms which were developed for aerospace applications.
We offer 4 materials with flame-retardant properties on Materialise Manufacturing:
Technology | Material | Standard used for testing (click to download certificate*) | Test result (rating) | valid from wall thicknesses above |
Selective Laser Sintering | PA 2210 FR Off-White | UL 94 | V0 | 3.0 mm |
PA 2241 FR Off-White | FAR 25.853 | Passed | / | |
Fused Deposition Modeling | Polycarbonate White | UL 94 | HB | 3.0 mm |
Ultem 9085 Beige | UL 94 | V0 | 1.5 mm |
PA 2210 FR Off-White is a halogen-free flame-retardant polyamide which was developed for the electric and electronic industry. It is Blue Card certified and passes UL 94 burning tests with V-0 for wall thicknesses from 3 mm onwards.
PA 2241 FR Off-White is a material developed for the aerospace industry which passes the FAR 25.853 tests.
Polycarbonate White is a thermoplastic material used widely for prototyping purposes which also has a small extent of flame-retardant properties.
Ultem 9085 Beige is a thermoplastic material which is applied in aerospace applications and reaches the highest score in UL 94 flame retardancy certification tests.
